Slope Percentage Calculator
Result
How to Use
- Enter the rise (vertical change) in any unit of measurement
- Enter the run (horizontal distance) in the same unit
- Click the "Calculate Slope" button
- The slope percentage and angle will be displayed below
Formula
The formula to calculate slope percentage is:
Slope Percentage = (Rise / Run) × 100%
Slope Angle = arctan(Rise / Run) × (180/π)°
Slope Ratio = Rise : Run
Common Examples
Rise | Run | Slope % | Angle |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 20 | 5% | 2.86° |
1 | 12 | 8.33% | 4.76° |
1 | 8 | 12.5% | 7.13° |
1 | 4 | 25% | 14.04° |
When to Use
- Construction and engineering
- Road and ramp design
- Landscaping and grading
- Roof pitch calculations
- Sports field design
Tips
- Use the same units for both rise and run
- Run cannot be zero
- Use decimal numbers for more precise calculations
- Consider local building codes for maximum slopes
- For accessibility, slopes should typically be less than 8.33%
