The Least Common Denominator (LCD) is the smallest number that is a multiple of all denominators.
Steps to find the LCD:
- Find the prime factorization of each denominator
- Take the highest power of each prime factor
- Multiply these prime factors together
Example:
- For 1/4 and 1/6:
- 4 = 2²
- 6 = 2 × 3
- LCD = 2² × 3 = 12
