How to Calculate Heart Rate from ECG
Heart rate can be calculated from an ECG tracing using several methods:
- R-R Interval Method: Measure the time between consecutive R waves
- Large Box Method: Count large boxes between R waves (each large box = 0.2 seconds)
- Small Box Method: Count small boxes between R waves (each small box = 0.04 seconds)
- 6-Second Method: Count R waves in a 6-second strip and multiply by 10
