FEUrea Calculation
About FEUrea

FEUrea is useful for AKI differentiation, especially when diuretics are being used (unlike FENa).

FEUrea Formula:

FEUrea = (Urine Urea × Serum Cr) / (Serum Urea × Urine Cr) × 100

Interpretation:
  • Prerenal: <35%
  • Indeterminate: 35-50%
  • Intrinsic: >50%
Advantages over FENa:
  • • Less affected by diuretics
  • • More reliable in diuretic use
  • • Better in volume depletion
  • • Useful in heart failure
Clinical Uses:
  • • AKI differentiation
  • • Diuretic-treated patients
  • • Volume status assessment
  • • Treatment planning
Limitations:
  • • Less studied than FENa
  • • May be affected by diet
  • • Requires spot urine sample
  • • Timing dependent
Professional Resources:
  • • Nephrologist
  • • Critical care physician
  • • Emergency medicine
