Mean Sac Diameter Calculator
Calculate Mean Sac Diameter (MSD) to assess early pregnancy development and estimate gestational age. MSD is measured from the inner edge to inner edge of the gestational sac in three perpendicular planes.
How to Measure MSD
Measure the gestational sac in three perpendicular planes:
Length
Longest diameter
Width
Perpendicular to length
Height
Third perpendicular dimension
Formula: MSD = (Length + Width + Height) ÷ 3

Clinical Interpretation & Recommendations
Important Information:
- MSD is most accurate between 5-8 weeks gestation
- Yolk sac should be visible by 5.5 weeks
- Fetal pole should be visible by 6.5 weeks
- Heartbeat should be visible by 6.5-7 weeks
- MSD dating accuracy: ±3-5 days
- Always correlate with LMP and clinical findings
