How to Convert Decimals to Fractions

To convert a decimal to a fraction:

  1. Count the number of decimal places
  2. Write the decimal as a fraction with denominator 10^n (where n is the number of decimal places)
  3. Simplify the fraction by dividing numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD)

For repeating decimals:

  1. Let x be the repeating decimal
  2. Multiply x by 10^n (where n is the length of the repeating part)
  3. Subtract the original x from this product
  4. Solve for x to get the fraction

Examples:

  • 0.75 = 75/100 = 3/4
  • 0.333... = 1/3
  • 2.5 = 25/10 = 5/2 = 2 1/2
