How it works
The vertex form of a quadratic equation is:
y = a(x - h)² + k
Where:
- (h, k) is the vertex of the parabola
- a determines the direction and width of the parabola
- If a > 0, the parabola opens upward
- If a < 0, the parabola opens downward
To convert between forms:
- Vertex to Standard: Expand (x - h)² and combine like terms
- Standard to Vertex: Complete the square
- Factored to Standard: Multiply the factors and combine like terms
