Vertex Form Calculator

Convert between vertex form, standard form, and factored form of quadratic equations.

Select Input Form
Vertex Form: y = a(x - h)² + k
Parabola Visualization
How it works

The vertex form of a quadratic equation is:

y = a(x - h)² + k

Where:

  • (h, k) is the vertex of the parabola
  • a determines the direction and width of the parabola
  • If a > 0, the parabola opens upward
  • If a < 0, the parabola opens downward

To convert between forms:

  • Vertex to Standard: Expand (x - h)² and combine like terms
  • Standard to Vertex: Complete the square
  • Factored to Standard: Multiply the factors and combine like terms
