About VTE in Pregnancy

Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Pregnancy increases VTE risk 4-5 times compared to non-pregnant women.

VTE Risk Factors:
  • High Risk: Previous VTE, thrombophilia
  • Moderate Risk: Age >35, obesity, multiple pregnancy
  • Low Risk: Young age, normal BMI, no history
  • Timing: Highest risk in postpartum period
Risk Categories:
  • Low: Score 0-1
  • Moderate: Score 2-3
  • High: Score ≥4
Common Symptoms:
  • DVT: Leg pain, swelling, warmth
  • PE: Chest pain, shortness of breath
  • Warning: Sudden onset symptoms
