About Average Rate of Change
The average rate of change measures how much a quantity changes per unit of another quantity.
Formula:
Average Rate of Change = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)
Example:
Point 1: (2, 4)
Point 2: (5, 10)
Rate of Change = (10 - 4) / (5 - 2) = 6/3 = 2
Average Rate of Change = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)
Example:
Point 1: (2, 4)
Point 2: (5, 10)
Rate of Change = (10 - 4) / (5 - 2) = 6/3 = 2
Properties:
- Represents the slope of the secant line
- Positive value indicates increasing function
- Negative value indicates decreasing function
- Zero indicates constant function
